Institute for Critical Social Theory
ABOUT
The Institute for Critical Social Theory is a group of scholars working within the realm of social-political and cultural theory. Interdisciplinary in its outlook, it seeks to create opportunities for scholars throughout the world to collaborate on projects, share their publications, discuss their ideas, and network on shared interests. The Institute for Critical Social Theory is especially interested in collaborative work that critically focuses on social, economic, and political change as it relates to both the global North and global South. As such, it is committed to fostering critical discourse between scholars from Western and “Rest-ern” (Non-Western) societies and providing platforms for the presentation of their work.
The Institute for Critical Social Theory was founded by Dustin J. Byrd, Ph.D. in 2021, and is co-directed by Dr. Byrd and his longtime academic collaborator, Seyed Javad Miri, Ph.D. Together, they have published numerous books on a variety of topics as well as the Institute for Critical Social Theory’s journal, Islamic Perspective.
With members working within the disciplines of philosophy, sociology, religious studies, psychology, history, criminology, etc., the Institute for Critical Society Theory has worldwide connections.
